Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has called on the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, to provide an explanation for the slow progress of corruption investigations, questioning the delays in prosecuting high-profile cases.
Kpebu’s concerns come after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) named former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a suspect in four significant corruption investigations, including the National Cathedral project and contracts related to Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).
During a press briefing on February 12, Agyebeng revealed that Ofori-Atta is now a wanted individual and must return to the country for questioning.
He warned that legal measures could be taken if Ofori-Atta does not comply.
Kpebu emphasized the need for Agyebeng to defend his management of cases, particularly the prolonged delays in pursuing high-profile individuals.
“Kissi Agyebeng’s case management needs to be thoroughly scrutinized. He must explain his approach. We can no longer simply support him without questioning the pace of the work,” Kpebu stated.
He also rejected the previous excuse of former President Akufo-Addo hindering the work of the OSP, calling for swift action. “We cannot keep blaming Akufo-Addo. If we do, many issues will remain unresolved. I am not satisfied with the speed of progress,” Kpebu added.
Kpebu’s remarks reflect growing public demand for greater accountability from the Office of the Special Prosecutor, as citizens await concrete actions on corruption cases.
