  • DCOP Abrokwa reassigned to Accra following the incident

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Frank Abrokwa, has been reassigned to the Police Headquarters in Accra following directives from the Police Administration.

This move comes in the wake of his alleged poor handling of security during the Ashanti Regional Council of State election, held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) in Kumasi.

The election, initially peaceful, descended into chaos when machomen, allegedly affiliated with the NDC from Obuasi, stormed the venue and disrupted the sorting of ballot papers.

Reports indicate that the chaos erupted upon realizing their candidate was losing to Nana Nkansah Boadu. The disruption led to the vandalization of electoral materials.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command, under DCOP Frank Abrokwa’s leadership, was criticized for failing to contain the situation, prompting his immediate transfer.

His transfer letter was reportedly delivered yesterday, shortly after the incident.
