Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Chairperson of the 19-member Taskforce charged with executing President John Dramani Mahama’s ambitious 120-day social contract, has reassured Ghanaians of the team’s unwavering commitment to delivering on its mandate.
Speaking at the Taskforce’s inauguration in Accra on Tuesday, February 11, Dr. Sawyerr emphasized the importance of fulfilling the President’s promises and underscored their resolve to overcome any obstacles in their path.
“Your promises to the people of Ghana are sacred, carefully crafted with deep thought and precision to ensure viability, sustainability, and impact,” she stated. “We are determined to fulfill the trust reposed in us. Woe betide anyone who attempts to derail our mission. We will not fail you, the people of Ghana, and with God as our helper, we will deliver.”
The 120-day social contract includes bold initiatives such as:
- Forming the leanest and most efficient government under the Fourth Republic.
- Abolishing e-levy, Covid-19 levy, and other burdensome taxes.
- Introducing free tertiary education for persons with disabilities and scrapping academic fees.
- Distributing free sanitary pads to female students in primary and secondary schools.
- Initiating a 24-hour economy policy.
- Launching a Women’s Development Bank with seed capital.
- Conducting forensic audits into controversial state deals.
- Banning illegal mining and kickstarting environmental recovery programs.
Dr. Sawyerr concluded by pledging the Taskforce’s absolute dedication to the mission, affirming, “We will not fail President Mahama, and we will not fail the people of Ghana.”
