The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has revealed plans to legalize motorcycles for commercial transport, delivering on a campaign pledge by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“We made a promise to regularize the use of motorcycles for commercial purposes, and starting today, we’ll begin revising the law to make this possible,” the Minister stated.

Addressing the media, he stressed that this initiative goes beyond legalization, focusing on ensuring safety and professionalism among Okada operators.

“Our Okada riders will be licensed, certified, and trained to provide safe and efficient transport services on our roads. This will also help ease road congestion,” he noted.

The government intends to implement a structured training and licensing program for operators, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver reliable services.

“Soon, we will roll out the steps needed to legalize the Okada business, enabling them to operate freely and responsibly,” he assured.
