The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Adjei Awatey, has pledged immediate intervention after a viral video captured a young student carrying his younger brother across a river on a broken tree trunk to reach school.
During a visit to the Upper West Akyem District, the Minister met with the boys featured in the video and assessed the precarious crossing with officials from the Ministry of Defence.
In a swift response, President John Dramani Mahama has tasked the Ministry of Defence with deploying engineers to evaluate the construction of a permanent bridge over the Asuokaw River. The Regional Minister assured residents that work on the project will begin shortly.
Additionally, the Member of Parliament for Upper West Akim, Emmanuel Drah, addressed the community during the visit, reiterating the government’s commitment to providing a safe and lasting solution for the area.
