- Ablakwa claims he faced deliberate hostility and targeting during the January 30 vetting session
- He accuses the committee of rescheduling nominees to delay his appearance
- Unexpected inclusion of Health Minister Akandoh raised further suspicions
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, has alleged that he was the primary target of the chaotic events during the Appointments Committee sitting on January 30.
The North Tongu MP, speaking before an Ad-hoc Committee investigating the widely criticized incident, claimed the hostility he faced at the session left no doubt in his mind that he was deliberately singled out.
“What I witnessed was sheer violence and destruction. The hostility was evident as soon as I entered. It was clear they didn’t want me vetted that day,” Mr. Ablakwa stated on Friday, February 7, 2025.
He further suggested deliberate attempts to delay his vetting, highlighting how Joseph Bukari Nikpe, who was originally scheduled after him, was vetted first.
“The advertised schedule was clear, and the media had copies. Yet, people scheduled after me, like Hon. Nikpe, were vetted ahead. It’s obvious there were calculated efforts to sideline me,” he explained.
Ablakwa also expressed surprise at the sudden inclusion of Health Minister and Juaboso MP, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, in the session. Akandoh, originally set for January 31, was unexpectedly called to appear ahead of Ablakwa.
“This was unannounced. Even Hon. Akandoh has confirmed he was scheduled for the next day but was abruptly summoned before me,” he added.
