The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has raised alarm over the escalating violence in senior high schools, cautioning that authorities may be forced to deploy military personnel to campuses if the situation continues unchecked.
This comes in response to recent violent clashes among students, some involving dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and locally crafted pistols. The rising indiscipline has reignited national discussions about character development and order in educational institutions.
GNAT’s General Secretary, Thomas Tanko Musah, expressed grave concern about the trend, linking it to a larger societal breakdown in respect and accountability.
“If nothing is done, we might soon need military barracks on campuses to maintain law and order,” he warned. “With students brandishing weapons, soldiers may have to step in to restore discipline.”
Musah also criticized the lack of consequences for students engaged in criminal activities, warning that such negligence could further undermine discipline in schools across the country.
