An Accra Circuit Court has convicted a 36-year-old job seeker, Foster Nyarko, for stealing a mobile phone from the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) office in Accra.
Nyarko was reported to have entered the office of Celis-Jane Nyadroh, a Principal Administrator at CHRAJ, and stole her Samsung Galaxy A54 5G mobile phone, valued at GHC 4,999.
Nyarko, who had been unemployed, was apprehended on January 30, 2025, in connection with a similar crime at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ridge. CCTV footage reportedly revealed his involvement in the theft.
Charged with unlawful entry and stealing, Nyarko pleaded guilty to the charges. The court, presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, convicted Nyarko but deferred sentencing until February 27, 2025.
Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah, leading the prosecution, shared that Nyarko had visited CHRAJ on October 23, 2024, claiming to follow up on his job application.
He entered the office of the complainant on the first floor (Room 15), only to find it empty, allowing him to steal the mobile phone.
The theft was reported to the Ministries Police Station on October 24, 2024. However, Nyarko’s actions were uncovered when he was apprehended by the management of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons on January 30, 2025.
CCTV evidence provided by the complainant and witnesses confirmed Nyarko’s involvement.
On January 31, 2025, Nyarko was taken to the crime scene, where he admitted to stealing the phone and unlawfully entering the office.
