Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, long-time rivals, have joined forces to call for enhanced security measures in the Ghana Premier League.

This comes in the wake of the tragic death of Nana Pooley, a Kotoko fan, following a violent clash at Nsoatreman.

In a joint statement issued on February 5, 2025, the two clubs announced their intention to present a detailed position paper to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) during a meeting scheduled for today.

Their proposals emphasize the need for stricter safety protocols at match venues to prevent such devastating incidents.

The statement, co-signed by Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) and Hearts of Oak’s Board and Management, urged collaboration with the government, law enforcement, and stakeholders to prioritize the safety of fans and players alike.

Hearts of Oak also extended heartfelt condolences to Kotoko, committing to work together to avert future tragedies.

Both clubs aim to push the GFA’s Executive Committee for immediate action, stressing that Nana Pooley’s passing should serve as a wake-up call to improve security across the league.
