Seventeen children have tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire at an Islamic school in Kauran Namoda, Zamfara state, northern Nigeria.

The fire, which is believed to have started in a nearby house, spread rapidly while the children, aged between 10 and 16, were asleep in their dormitories. Several other pupils sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at local health centers.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the remote location and narrow roads hampered efforts to contain the flames.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and are conducting inspections of other Islamic schools to prevent future disasters. The community has since buried the victims, while grieving families find solace in their faith.

With approximately 100 students enrolled, many of the children came from surrounding villages, making this loss all the more heartbreaking for the region.
