Crystal Palace have turned down a £70m offer from Tottenham for their defender Marc Guehi.
The England international, who previously attracted interest from Newcastle during the summer transfer window, has 18 months remaining on his contract with Palace.
This season, Guehi has made 23 Premier League appearances and scored three goals, helping Palace sit 12th in the table, three points ahead of 14th-placed Tottenham.
Tottenham are not expected to raise their bid for the 24-year-old during this window. Palace previously rejected four offers from Newcastle in the summer, with the final bid reaching up to £65m.
Despite selling Guehi to Palace for £18m in 2021, Chelsea are reportedly still interested in the defender as part of their ongoing search for defensive reinforcements.
Crystal Palace are currently dealing with a shortage of fit centre-backs, following the recall of Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell by Chelsea and a long-term knee injury to Chadi Riad.
The club had considered signing Tiago Djalo from Portugal, but Juventus must first recall him from his loan at Porto before the deal can proceed.
Tottenham, who have also been dealing with defensive injuries, are looking to strengthen their backline.
Despite securing the loan signing of Lens defender Kevin Danso on Sunday, Spurs are still short on options after Romanian centre-back Radu Dragusin sustained a knee injury in Thursday’s Europa League win over Elfsborg. He joins Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie on the injury list.
Reports suggest Tottenham have also been monitoring other central defenders, including Chelsea’s Axel Disasi and AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori.
Tottenham have yet to comment on the matter.
In addition, Spurs have agreed to sign France Under-21 forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich on Monday.
