The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals in connection with the violent clashes that broke out during a Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC at Nsoatre in the Bono Region.

The February 2 incident resulted in the tragic death of one person.

The suspects, identified as Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Agyemang Duah Owusu, and Kyeremeh Joseph, are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

A search of Agyemang Duah Owusu’s residence led to the discovery of two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, raising further concerns about escalating violence in football.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has personally reached out to the family of the deceased and the leadership of Asante Kotoko to express condolences and assure them of a thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has pledged heightened security at stadiums nationwide.

In response to the tragedy, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended all Premier League matches as investigations continue.
