The management of Accra Academy Senior High School has responded to public concerns following the circulation of a viral video showing a student assaulting a colleague with a machete.
In a statement issued on Sunday, January 21, 2024, the school revealed that the incident took place on January 17 but was not reported until the footage surfaced on social media.
Upon investigation, all students involved were identified, and their parents were contacted. The primary perpetrator has since been handed over to the police for further interrogation.
The school confirmed that the students involved—all day students—have been suspended pending further investigation. The individuals identified as perpetrators include Shadad Aliu (Kester), Haleem Jibril (Chopper), Ahmed Dauda (Foreigner), and Richard Ninsin (Poisonous), while the victims include Samuel Ussher, Kingsford Quayson, Stephen Oteng, and Dominic Awuku Adjei.
Preliminary findings indicate that the machete used in the assault was brought from home and not obtained from the school premises.
The school’s disciplinary committee is currently handling the case, with updates to be provided to all relevant stakeholders.
Accra Academy assured parents and guardians that they are taking the matter seriously and are committed to ensuring a safe learning environment for all students.
