Sports Minister-designate, Kofi Adams, has revealed that the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) recent reshuffle of the Black Stars’ technical team will undergo scrutiny.
The new appointments come as the Black Stars aim to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which resume in March, following Ghana’s unexpected failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in two decades.
Notable changes include the appointment of German coach Winfried Schaffer as the technical advisor and football director for both the Black Stars and the GFA.
Desmond Offei, previously the head coach of Ghana’s U20 team, has been promoted to assistant coach, filling the spot left by German coach Joseph Laumann. He will work alongside existing assistants John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda. Other new appointments include Kris Perquy as the team’s psychologist and Gregory De Grauwe as the video analyst.
Despite these changes, Kofi Adams emphasized in an interview that these appointments will be re-evaluated.
“We will review the GFA’s new appointments for the Black Stars technical team,” Adams stated in an interview suggesting potential reassessments of costs and contract conditions.
This move comes after Otto Addo’s tenure as head coach faced increased pressure following Ghana’s failure to secure an AFCON spot, despite his three-year contract with the option for an extension. However, the GFA has decided to retain Addo in the role.
