The Minority Caucus in Parliament has condemned the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, for suspending three of their members for two weeks, starting January 31, 2025.

The suspension followed a violent clash at the Appointments Committee on January 30, 2025, during the vetting of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The suspended MPs include Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Jerry Ahmed Shaib (Second Minority Whip and MP for Gushegu), and Alhassan Sulemana Tampulo. The Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, was also suspended.

In a statement issued on February 1, the Minority labeled the decision as politically motivated and an abuse of power.

“We categorically reject the suspension of three MPs and demand an immediate reversal of this politically charged decision,” the statement declared.

The Minority further emphasized the need for Parliament to remain a stronghold of democracy, advocating for a fair environment where all members are allowed to voice their opinions without fear of retribution.
