Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), is set to commence his terminal leave on Monday, February 3, 2025, ahead of his official retirement on March 28, 2025.

Having served as Governor since April 2017, he will retire after two full terms in line with the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612), which limits the Governor’s tenure to two four-year terms.

The move follows approval from President John Dramani Mahama, with the Bank of Ghana expressing gratitude for Dr. Addison’s distinguished service. A statement from the Bank extended wishes for a restful retirement to the outgoing Governor.

In related news, President Mahama has nominated Dr. Johnson Asiamah, former Second Deputy Governor of the BoG, as the next Governor, pending approval by the Council of State. Dr. Asiamah brings over 23 years of experience at the Bank, a PhD in Economics, and expertise in monetary policy, financial stability, and economic research.
