Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, has emphasized that the government will use foreign diplomacy to tackle the growing unemployment crisis in the country.
During his parliamentary vetting on January 31, 2025, he proposed using economic diplomacy and bilateral agreements to address the issue.
Ablakwa pointed out the opportunity to regulate migration through diplomatic channels, particularly focusing on the protection of Ghanaians working abroad, especially in the Gulf region, where many have faced exploitation and abuse.
He stressed the importance of formalizing employment pathways through government-to-government agreements to prevent unregulated and exploitative recruitment practices.
Ablakwa vowed to prioritize foreign policy initiatives that not only tackle unemployment but also convert the issue of brain drain into a brain gain, ensuring that Ghanaian workers abroad are treated fairly, while also securing job opportunities at home.
