Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s Minister-Designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform the country into Africa’s premier hub for Artificial Intelligence (AI) by 2028.

This bold vision is part of Ghana’s broader strategy to harness the potential of AI, big data, cybersecurity, and digital innovation to spearhead the continent’s digital revolution.

During his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 30, the Ningo-Prampram MP outlined his roadmap for developing Ghana’s AI ecosystem.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration between government entities, the private sector, and global tech giants to ensure Ghana leads the AI charge in Africa, rather than just participating in it.

Samuel George compared AI’s current potential to the early days of cryptocurrency, stressing its transformative power. He also noted that President John Dramani Mahama has a clear AI policy, which will be enhanced by reviewing and adapting the existing strategy laid out by the previous government.

The minister’s approach includes executing innovation hubs as promised in the government’s manifesto and leveraging AI alongside big data to make Ghana the undisputed leader in AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, data analytics, and processing across Africa.
