Kofi Adams Pledges to Restore Ghana’s Sporting Glory
Minister-Designate for Sports and Recreation Sets Sights on Reviving Football, Boxing, and Athletics
- Heavy investments in boxing and athletics to revive Ghana’s competitive edge
- Adams vows to restore Ghana's prominence in international football after recent setbacks
- Plans to boost preparations for future Olympic Games, especially in boxing, to reclaim Ghana's historic success
Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, has committed to reviving the nation’s sporting excellence.
Despite the significant decline in key disciplines like football, boxing, and athletics in recent years, Adams is determined to bring Ghana back to the top of the sporting world.
In response to a question from former Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, Adams expressed his ministry’s focus on heavily investing in boxing and athletics, sports where Ghana once thrived. “It’s unfortunate Ghana didn’t make it into the recent AFCON draw,” he noted, emphasizing that his team will work tirelessly to restore the country’s golden era in sports.
Ghana’s sports fortunes have been on a downward spiral, with the Black Stars failing to qualify for AFCON for the first time in 21 years and no boxers qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics, despite boxing being historically Ghana’s most successful Olympic sport.
