Sam George, the Minister-designate for Communication, has highlighted the urgent need to secure funding for the implementation of Ghana’s Cybersecurity Act, passed by the previous administration but left unfunded.
During his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, he criticized the lack of operational support for the Act and emphasized the importance of financial backing for cybersecurity initiatives, especially for young Ghanaian enterprises grappling with limited resources.
Sam George pledged to introduce sustainable funding mechanisms, including grants, government allocations, and the establishment of a dedicated cyber fund.
He expressed optimism that these proposals would be fully realized under President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership, ensuring a fortified digital infrastructure and fostering innovation within Ghana’s digital economy.
“When approved, the ideas I proposed in 2022 will see the light of day,” he assured the Committee.
