Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, the Minister-Designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, has hailed the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s proposed 24-hour economy as a game-changing initiative that promises to enhance productivity, generate employment, and improve the financial well-being of Ghana’s workforce.

In his vetting before Parliament on Thursday, January 30, Pelpuo shared his vision for the policy, emphasizing its potential to tackle youth unemployment and improve workers’ wages.

The 24-hour economy, a brainchild of former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC, aims to extend business hours beyond the traditional 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. work schedule.

The policy introduces a three-shift system across various sectors, ensuring continuous economic activity.

Pelpuo highlighted that the policy is not just about longer working hours but also about fair compensation for workers, aiming to maximize productivity while ensuring that Ghanaian workers are properly rewarded for their contributions.
