Madam Gifty Klenam, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Lower West Akim in the Eastern Region, has officially joined the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was voted out of power.
Her decision, announced on January 30, 2025, in the Anlo Constituency of the Volta Region, marks a significant political shift.
Explaining her move, Madam Klenam highlighted the NDC’s alignment with her values and its commitment to Ghana’s development. She urged other disillusioned NPP members to follow her lead and embrace what she sees as a brighter future under President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership.
“The NDC’s manifesto offers a clear blueprint for Ghana’s transformation, and I’m confident in President Mahama’s ability to deliver prosperity for all,” she stated.
Having served in Parliament and as CEO of the Ghana Export Promotion Centre, Madam Klenam now aims to connect with the NDC grassroots, empowering them and encouraging local opportunities to reduce the exodus of Ghanaians seeking work abroad.
Her defection has sparked widespread discussion, given her prominence in the NPP during her tenure.
