Ashanti Regional Minister nominee, Frank Amoakohene, has vowed to harness the power of social media to promote good governance and engage directly with the people of the region.
Speaking during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, January 27, Amoakohene highlighted the importance of leveraging digital platforms to foster development and inspire youth participation in the region’s progress.
Reflecting on societal changes, he noted how traditional community hubs have been replaced by the digital sphere. “When I was young, my father would send me to the community center where people gathered to play games like ‘Ludo’ and ‘Dame.’ Today, such centers no longer exist. Instead, social media has become the new community, offering a space to share ideas and interact,” he explained.
With an active presence on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok, Amoakohene believes social media provides a unique opportunity to connect with the youth and better understand their concerns.
He assured the committee that while he wouldn’t overly depend on social media, it would remain a valuable tool to promote government initiatives and maintain transparency.
He also plans to establish a dedicated team to ensure messages and concerns raised through these platforms are promptly addressed.
This approach, he added, underscores his commitment to fostering strong youth engagement and driving regional development through accessible communication.
