Newcastle Hammer Leicester to Join Top Four Contenders

- Newcastle United continued their impressive form
- They remain deep in relegation trouble
- Murphy doubled his tally less than ten minutes later
Newcastle United continued their impressive form, inflicting further misery on relegation-threatened Leicester City with a dominant victory that propelled them level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League.
Eddie Howe’s high-scoring side moved up to fifth, leapfrogging Manchester City, and crucially have a game in hand over Chelsea in the Champions League qualification battle.
For Leicester, the defeat marked a grim milestone as they became the first team in England’s top four divisions to lose eight consecutive home league games without scoring. They remain deep in relegation trouble, 15 points adrift of safety with just seven matches left.
Newcastle’s onslaught began early, with Jacob Murphy tapping in the opener within two minutes after good work from Tino Livramento. Murphy doubled his tally less than ten minutes later, reacting quickest after Fabian Schar’s spectacular long-range effort from his own half struck the crossbar.
The visitors extended their lead before the half-hour mark when Joelinton cut past Wout Faes, forcing a save from Mads Hermansen, only for former Leicester winger Harvey Barnes to score the rebound, making it 3-0 to the resounding boos of the King Power Stadium crowd.
