Philanthropist Alhaji Yakubu Ayaana Embarks on Symbolic Journey to Honor President-Elect’s Victory
Ghanaian philanthropist Alhaji Yakubu Ayaana, 65, has undertaken an extraordinary 250-kilometer trek on foot from Kumasi to Accra to honor President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s 2024 election victory.
Accompanied by an ambulance for support, Alhaji Yakubu set out to arrive in Accra on January 7, 2025, just in time for Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony.
A businessman and philanthropist from Tamale, Alhaji Yakubu first traveled to Kumasi by vehicle before beginning his symbolic walk.
This ambitious journey follows his announcement on December 21, shortly after Mahama’s electoral win. Previously, he completed a 19-kilometer health walk in Tamale to celebrate the peaceful elections and express gratitude for the overwhelming support shown to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Alhaji Yakubu is no stranger to symbolic treks. In 1997, he walked in honor of former President Jerry John Rawlings’ second-term inauguration. Two years later, he organized a 16-kilometer peace walk in Tamale on Independence Day to promote unity and health.
With his latest journey, Alhaji Yakubu continues his tradition of using his footsteps as a powerful symbol of celebration and solidarity.
