A group of 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), who served under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government from 2017 to 2024, has publicly pledged their unwavering support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.

At a press briefing held on June 23 at Accra’s Alisa Hotel, this coalition—calling themselves the Forum of Former MMDCEs for Dr. Bawumia—expressed a firm and active endorsement ahead of the NPP’s internal elections scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The group emphasized that their backing goes beyond symbolism; it represents a concrete commitment of their time, resources, and political influence to ensure Dr. Bawumia secures the party’s nomination and wins the presidency.

After thorough consultations with all contenders and evaluating their visions and capabilities, the forum concluded that Dr. Bawumia is the best candidate to lead both the party and the nation.

With 95% of its members having served as Constituency and Regional Executives—some with over 16 years of experience—they bring deep knowledge of the party’s structures and electoral strategies. They plan to use this expertise to amplify Dr. Bawumia’s campaign across Ghana.

The former MMDCEs highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s achievements in public service, particularly his leadership in Ghana’s digital revolution, including the implementation of the Ghana Card, mobile money interoperability, and a paperless port system, all of which have enhanced efficiency and formalized key sectors of the economy.

They also praised his inclusive leadership style, describing him as approachable, humble, and a unifier who connects with all factions of the party. His popularity among grassroots supporters, youth, and undecided voters gives the NPP a strong advantage in the upcoming election.

According to the group, Dr. Bawumia’s widespread recognition, especially after the 2024 campaign, positions him as the party’s strongest candidate for 2028. Starting the campaign with a well-known figure offers a significant edge compared to a new, untested contender.

They see Dr. Bawumia as a leader who combines continuity with innovation—capable of sustaining Ghana’s development while introducing fresh ideas for progress.

The forum pledged to mobilize their extensive grassroots networks in all 16 regions to support his campaign, promising door-to-door outreach, factual messaging, and fundraising efforts to bolster his bid.

“We are not just endorsing—we are activating our networks,” they declared, committed to driving Dr. Bawumia’s campaign forward with full force.
