- The EC emphasizes its dedication to election integrity
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has officially terminated its contract with Yasarko Printing Press Limited, which was set to produce the presidential and parliamentary ballot papers for the Oti and Western North regions in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
In a press release dated October 25, 2024, the EC announced that Buck Press Limited and Acts Commercials Limited will now take over the printing duties for their respective regions.
This change comes in response to concerns from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the need for transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
The NDC had raised questions about Yasarko Printing Press Limited’s ability to handle such a critical task without bias, prompting calls for the EC to ensure robust measures to prevent potential ballot tampering.
The EC began printing notices of poll and ballot papers on October 11, 2024, amid heightened scrutiny from political parties and civil society organizations.
The NDC stressed the importance of vigilance in the production of ballots, particularly in areas with closely contested races.
In the press release, signed by Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations, the EC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and impartiality, promising equal oversight of all contracted firms to safeguard the integrity of the election.
The EC assured stakeholders that Buck Press Limited and Acts Commercials Limited will meet the same stringent standards to ensure the security and accuracy of the ballot papers.
