11 Dead in Fatal Collision on Accra-Kumasi Highway Near Amanase

A horrifying early morning collision at Amanase, near Suhum, has claimed the lives of 11 people following a head-on crash between a fuel tanker and a passenger Sprinter bus.
The accident occurred around 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, along the busy Accra-Kumasi Highway.
According to preliminary investigations, the driver of the fuel tanker (registration GR 1300-16) is suspected to have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer into the path of the oncoming Benz Sprinter bus (registration GW 6510-23). The impact was fatal, instantly killing nine men and two women.
Several other passengers suffered critical injuries and are currently receiving emergency care at the Suhum Government Hospital.
Rescue teams from the Suhum Fire Service and Police quickly responded, assisting with rescue operations and managing traffic along the accident-prone route. ADO1 Akonnor Opare Ohene Daniel, the Suhum Municipal PRO for the Ghana National Fire Service, confirmed the details.
Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and is visiting the hospital to support the victims and oversee possible transfers of the severely injured to advanced medical facilities.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
